BROWN, MIA ARNESBY (1867 - 1931), artist Born in Cwmbran, Monmouth, daughter of Rev. Charles Smallwood Edwards and grand-daughter of Rev. Loderwick Edwards, vicar of Rhymney. She studied under Sir Hubert von Herkomer. She showed five pictures in the Royal Academy under her maiden name, Edwards. In 1913 in an exhibition of contemporary Welsh artists, two of her pictures drew attention - ' Mary reading ' and ' The Garden Boy ', the latter

BRUCE, CHARLES GRANVILLE (1866 - 1939), mountaineer and soldier , third daughter of Col. Sir Edward Fitzgerald Campbell in 1894. Their only child, a son, died young. Mrs. Bruce died in 1932 and Charles Granville on 12 July 1939. A memorial to him was placed in Abbottabad (Pakistan) church in 1942 by the 5th and 6th Gurkhas.
BRUCE, WILLIAM NAPIER (1858 - 1936), educationalist and lawyer , and he presided with unfailing tact over its inner councils and with natural dignity on all its public occasions. The Life of General Sir Charles Napier (London,. 1885) and Sir A. Henry Layard: Autobiography and Letters (London, 1903), which he edited, were his chief publications. Bruce was made a C.B. in 1905 and a C.H. in 1935. He died at Bath, 20 March 1936.
BRYAN, JOHN (1776 - 1856), Wesleyan Methodist minister Born at Llanfyllin, where he spent much of his childhood with his uncle, a certain John Rogers. At the age of 12 he moved to Shrewsbury, and then in the course of the following years to Corwen, Bala, and Wrexham, whence, in 1798, he went to Chester as an assistant in the drapery business of the Misses Williams, daughters of Richard Williams of Rackery, near Gresford. CADWALADR, DAFYDD (1752 - 1834), Calvinistic Methodist preacher ; his daughter tells us that he composed his sermons while knitting 'very fast'; and as he was an untiring walker (even to London) he became a favourite preacher throughout Wales.
