BLACKWELL, JOHN (Alun; 1797 - 1840), cleric and poet memory was placed on the wall of Maenordeifi ('Manordivy') church. Alun is remembered for his poems in the free metres: 'Rhywun,' 'Cerdd Hela,' ' Cathl i'r Eos,' 'Cân Gwraig y Pysgotwr,' and 'Abaty Tintern' (a free translation of an English original with four additional lines at the end). These poems are the forerunners of the lyrical poetry produced by the romantic movement.

DAVIES, ROBERT (Asaph Llechid; 1834 - 1858), musician Born 29 June 1834 at Carneddi near Bethesda, Caernarfonshire, son of David Roberts. EDWARDS, WILLIAM (Gwilym Padarn; 1786 - 1857), poet He was a native of Llanberis, Caernarfonshire, where he worked as a quarryman. Gaining considerable repute as a poet, he published a volume of verse, Eos Padarn, in 1829, including compositions submitted to the provincial eisteddfodau held at Wrexham, Caernarfon, and Brecon (1820-2).
