OWEN, JOHN (Owain Alaw; 1821 - 1883), musician him called 'Calfari' appeared in Haleliwia, 1849; in the Rhuddlan eisteddfod of 1851, where he was given the name of Owain Alaw, he took the prize for an anthem, 'Deborah a Barac.' In the same year he tied with John Ambrose Lloyd at the Tremadoc eisteddfod for a cantata, 'Gweddi Habacuc.' PARRY, ROBERT (fl. 1810-1863), poet Born probably at Llanbryn-mair, son of Robert Parry, curate of that parish, and Mary, his wife, daughter of John Jones of Esgair Ifan. While he was still a small child his father was given the living of Eglwys-bach, Denbighshire (1810-26) and the family went to live in that place (Thomas, A History of the Diocese of St. Asaph, ii, 311). His elder brother Dafydd Morgan Peate (born 1898) became a bank manager and his younger sister Morfudd Ann Mary (born 1910) married Llefelys Davies the chairman of the Milk Marketing Board on New Year's Day 1942. PRICE, THOMAS (MALDWYN) (1860 - 1933), musician the 'Maldwyn' was added to his name in later years; born at Talerddig in Llanbryn-mair parish, Montgomeryshire, 19 March 1860, son of Thomas Price, a blacksmith employed at the time on the building of the railway, under David Davies (1818 - 1890); the mother's name was Jane (Howell). Thomas Price, sen., had a rich bass voice and was a well-known choir-conductor; and his daughter, Jenny, won a
PUGH, Sir IDWAL VAUGHAN (1918 - 2010), civil servant, Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman) (1976-79) of Coleg Harlech and the Cardiff Business Club, and vice-presidentof the University College of Swansea. The honours he received include: being appointed CB in 1967, knighted in 1972 and being elected Honorary Fellow of St John's College, Oxford, in 1979. In 1946 he married Mair Lewis (she died in 1985); they had a son and daughter. He died 21 April 2010.
PULESTON, Sir JOHN HENRY (1829 - 1908), banker and Member of Parliament was interested in every Welsh national movement. He had acted as vice-president of the Hon. Society of Cymmrodorion, treasurer of the National Eisteddfod Association, 1880-1907, and first chairman of the committee of the London Welsh club. He died 19 October 1908. His sister, Mary Ann Puleston (Mair Clwyd) was the mother of John Puleston Jones.
REES, ABRAHAM (1743 - 1825), encyclopaedist Born in the Old Independent Chapel House, Llanbryn-mair, the son of the Rev. Lewis Rees and Esther Penry. In his article on John Penry in his Cyclopaedia, Rees states: ' The editor of this Cyclopaedia traces his genealogy, by the maternal branch, to the family of Mr. Penry '. REES, LEWIS (1710 - 1800), Independent minister -ton, near Bridgend, and at the Maesgwyn Academy. He was received into church membership at Blaen-gwrach and began to preach there. He was persuaded by Edmund Jones and by his old schoolmaster, Vavasor Griffiths, to take charge of the small church at Tŷ Mawr, Llanbryn-mair. He worked assiduously there without, however, being ordained, from 1734 until 1738; he was ordained at Blaen-gwrach on 13 April

RICHARDS, THOMAS (1754 - 1837), cleric Nantcwnlle in Cardiganshire; he also kept school at Nantcwnlle. He received priest's orders in 1809, and in 1811 he went to Llanbryn-mair as curate and schoolmaster. In December 1816 he moved to Caerwys in Flintshire, and after ten years as curate there he was appointed rector and stayed there till 1849. In that year he went as vicar to Meifod, Montgomeryshire, and died there, 3 April 1860. He was buried
RICHARDS, WILLIAM LESLIE (1916 - 1989), Scholar, teacher, poet and author complexion, with a round countenance, like many of his family. In 1942 he married Elizabeth Mair Pamela Jones (1920-2002), Ffosyresgob, Capel Isaac, and they had four children. He died in Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, on 27 December 1989, after a short illness. On 30 December, after a public funeral service at Y Capel Newydd, Llandeilo, his remains were buried with his forefathers in Siloam Cemetery
