EVANS, OWEN (1808 - 1865), Unitarian minister and schoolmaster Neath, and (2) to Margaret Harries of Penderyn, a descendant of Siôn Llewelyn, one of the founders of the Old Meeting House. Apart from articles for the Ymofynydd he published sermons on Temporal Judgments, 1846, and a translation of a sermon preached by the Rabbi Raphael of Birmingham on the Unity of God, 1846, He died 9 January 1865 and was buried in the Old Meeting House cemetery at Cefn Coed.

GRIFFITH, JOHN (1863 - 1933), schoolmaster and musician Born at Rhiw, Llŷn, 18 April 1863, the eldest son of Siôn Griffith, shoemaker, of Pen-y-groes, Rhiw, and Martha Griffith, Pen Nebo, Rhiw. He was educated at Botwnnog grammar school, was a pupil teacher at Nebo, Llanllyfni, and a student at Bangor Normal College, 1881-2, and became headmaster of the British Schools at Glanwydden and Machynlleth. GRIFFITH, THOMAS TAYLOR (1795 - 1876), surgeon and antiquary Born at Wrexham, 11 December 1795, he was one of the eleven children (and the eldest son) of Thomas Griffith (1753 - 1846, surgeon), and great-grandson of John Griffith (1654 - 1698) or Siôn Gruffydd of Cae Cyriog, genealogist and herald, who died 31 October 1698. GRUFFUDD HIRAETHOG (bu farw 1564), bard and herald the 16th century, such as Simwnt Fychan, Wiliam Llŷn, Wiliam Cynwal, Siôn Tudur and Raff ap Robert having been his disciples. Some of these men came into possession of his manuscripts after his death. Gruffudd Hiraethog best exemplifies the interest in heraldry which was characteristic of the bards of his period, and extensive collections of pedigrees made by him still remain such as Peniarth MS 132

GRUFFUDD LLWYD ab IFAN (fl. 1564), poet nothing is known about his life, but it appears from one of his poems that he lived in Anglesey. Some of his work remains in manuscripts, and this includes cywyddau to Elis Prys of Plas Iolyn (NLW MS 1247D (22)), Ieuan ap Siôn ap Maredudd of Bryncyr (NLW MS 5282B (49)), and Tudur ap Rhobert of Berain (NLW MS 6495D (118b, 120 - in the poet's hand apparently)). GRUFFUDD, IFAN (c. 1655 - c. 1734), poet wyneb yngwrthwyneb ' printed in Meddylieu Neillduol ar Grefydd (1717). He produced a number of englynion and at least one 'summer carol.' We hear of him being present at the Machynlleth eisteddfod, 1702, where he was lampooned by Siôn Rhydderch. Iaco ab Dewi wrote a poem in his honour, while Siencyn Thomas of Cwm-du and Alban Thomas of Blaen-porth wrote elegies upon him.
