Born at Melin Gallau in the parish of Llanddety, Brecknock, 20 November 1778, son of William Thomas. The
family
went to live at Melin Pontycapel, Cefncoedycymer, c. 1781. Taliesin ab Iolo says, in a letter, that when he was 7 years of age he began to work on a coal level owned by his father. Nothing much is said about his early education, but it is stated that he began to write when he was still

Born 23 January 1895 at Bronolau, Boduan, Caernarfonshire, son of John Thomas, a well-known local poet in Llŷn, and his wife Ann Williams. The
family
moved to the vicinity of Nefyn, and established themselves later at Bodeilas near Pistyll where he was brought up. He left Nefyn Elementary School in 1909, and worked in the Eifl granite quarry. He joined the army in 1914, and saw action in the

Tom Pugh Williams was born in 1912 in Trawsfynydd where his parents Edward and Jane (née Jones) Williams farmed Dolwen. When the lake in Trawsfynydd was created, the farm disappeared under the water. The

had moved from Trawsfynydd to Pantgwyn, Ysceifiog, Holywell and Tom Pugh Williams attended the County School for Boys in Denbigh. In 1929 he began his studies at the University College of

descended from the marriage of Howel Gam ap David (fl. 1300) to a daughter of the Scudamore

. The surname was first adopted by his grandfather, Roger Williams (died 1583), who was sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1562 and was succeeded in the office in 1627 by his son, Sir Charles Williams; the latter, Sir Trevor's father, knighted in 1621, also represented the county in Parliament that year

Waldo Williams was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire on 30 September 1904, the third of five children of John Edwal Williams (1863-1934) and Angharad Williams (née Jones, 1875-1932). His father was headmaster of Prendergast School in Haverfordwest and English was the language spoken within the

Born 20 August 1814 at Tŷ Du, Creuddyn, Llandudno, the son of Enoch and Ellin Williams. His father was a stone-mason. As the eldest of a large

, Creuddynfab had very little education but worked at an early age on neighbouring farms, later moving to live with an aunt at Kenyside, near Knutsford, and to assist on a farm there. Afterwards he worked for a while in a warehouse in Manchester.In

until, at the age of 19, he married one of the Bowen
family
of Llwyn-gwair, Nevern. His wife died within a year, to his very profound grief; at the end of December 1753 he wrote out a 'covenant' which can be read in David Jones's book (below). An Anglican by up-bringing, he was attracted to the Baptists and was baptized at Cilfowyr in 1760; at his baptism he made it clear that he did not approve of

Born 5 or 6 February 1801 at Bryn y Ffynnon, Denbigh, eldest son of Thomas and Mary Williams. His father, a weaver, also kept a shop. He was educated at a number of schools in the town but c.1814 his father became financially embarrassed; the shop was sold and the

removed to Henllan-street where the father continued his work as a weaver. The son was sent to his grandfather and uncle at
