(Rufus; 1833 - 1877), Baptist minister and author
Born at Merthyr Tydfil, 5 May 1833, son of William and Hannah Williams, members at Abercannaid, where he himself was baptized in 1848. He was employed as a youth at the Pentre-bach ironworks, but started to preach 24 April 1850, and in January 1855, after a two years' course of training at a school kept at Merthyr Tydfil by

Born at Lampeter, Cardiganshire, 25 March 1727. After training for the ministry at Carmarthen Academy under Evan Davies and Samuel

, he held pastorates at Stamford, Lincolnshire, 1752-5; Wokingham, Berks., 1755-67; and Sydenham, Kent, 1767-95. He was appointed librarian of Dr. Williams's Library in 1777. From the date of his retirement from that position, in 1782, until his death he was one

. He was a member of the society at Aberthyn, but left the Methodists in 1791 when Peter Williams was expelled. He was one of the leaders of the company which founded the church at ' the Briton ' and chose

William as its minister. Both were friends and used to take communion at Llan-gan in David Jones's (1736 - 1810) time. He died 26 August 1806 at the age of 78, and was buried at Saint Athan

giving birth to a son who died within a year and five months. He married (2), 1903, Abigail Jenkins of Pontlotyn, sister to the mother of Sir Daniel

Davies. She died 24 June 1936 when he was in Bangor passing the chairmanship of the Union to John Dyfnallt Owen. He died 6 May 1954.

WILLIAMS, MARIA JANE
(Llinos; 1795? - 1873), musician
the famous harpist Parish-Alvars. In the Abergavenny eisteddfod of 1838 she was awarded the prize offered by lady Llanover for the best collection of Welsh airs, this being the collection published in 1844 under the title of The Ancient National Airs of Gwent and Morgannwg.
