DAVIES, ROBERT
(Cyndeyrn; 1814 - 1867), musician
and some of his hymn-tunes are to be found in Llyfr Tonau ac Emynau (Stephen and Jones), Casgliad St. Asaph (W. J.
Hughes
), and Caniadau y Cysegr a'r Teulu (Gee, Denbigh). His services were frequently called for as an adjudicator. He died October 1867 and was buried in S. Asaph churchyard.
DAVIES, ROBERT HUMPHREY
(Gomerian; 1856 - 1947), correspondent of Welsh and English newspapers
Born at Penygogwydd, near Dinorwig, Caernarfonshire, son of Humphrey R. Davies and Janet (née

). He was taken as a child by his parents to America, and lived for some years at Dam, near Slatington, Pa. When he was sixteen he was apprenticed as a compositor in the offices of Y Wasg, Pittsburgh, Pa., where, apart from fifteen months in New York and Utica, he spent the remainder of his long

Griffiths. He died at Llandilo, 3 October 1892, and was buried there.

Soar (Congl.), Llanelli in 1909; they had a son and daughter. His wife died in 1953 a few weeks after his retirement to Cardiff where he became a member of Tabernacl church: and (2) Eirene

DAVIES, WILLIAM EDWARDS
(1851 - 1927), Cymmrodor and eisteddfodwr
Llanrwst. He was accountant at the Caernarvon branch, 1875-8, and was secretary of the national eisteddfod held there in 1877. He was partly responsible for building the Caernarvon Pavilion. He wrote a history of the old Caernarvon eisteddfodau from 1821 to 1880 (see Cofnodion 1886). He was joint secretary with Sir Vincent Evans of the London eisteddfod, 1887, and again with D. R.

EAMES, WILLIAM
(1874 - 1958), journalist
Hughes
, the sister of Howel Harris
Hughes
and the author of Llyfr prydiau bwyd (1932). As ' Megan Ellis ', she was the editor of the women's pages in Y Ford Gron and she also broadcast from Bangor and Cardiff. Together, they wrote a novel, Melin y ddôl (1948). William Eames died at Colwyn Bay on 29 September 1958; his wife had died at Cardiff on 23 June 1955.
EDWARD MAELOR
(fl. c. 1580-1620), poet
No details about him are known, but a number of his poems, cywyddau and englynion, remain in manuscript. They include poems in praise of North Wales gentry, including Humphrey

of Gwerclys, and John Eyton and his wife, a marriage poem addressed to Andrew Meredydd of Glan Tanad, and an elegy on the poet Siôn Tudur. His englynion include some written in bardic controversy (ymryson) with Morys
EDWARDS, CHARLES
(1628 - after 1691), Puritan man of letters
and 1675 he came into contact with Stephen

and Thomas Gouge and the Englishmen who formed the ' Welsh Trust ' with the object of establishing charity schools and publishing Welsh books to be distributed free to poor persons. He was in London, therefore, until 1684, superintending the work of printing those books. He also published some works of his own, including the 3rd edition of Y Ffydd
EDWARDS, GWILYM ARTHUR
(1881 - 1963), minister (Presb.), principal of the Theological College, Aberystwyth, and author
appointed professor at Bala College, and worked there with Principal David Phillips until 1939. From 1939 to 1949 he was principal of the Theological College at Aberystwyth. He was awarded an honorary D.D. degree by the University of Edinburgh. In 1917 he married Mary Nesta, daughter of Richard
