PARRY-WILLIAMS, Sir THOMAS HERBERT
(1887 - 1975), author and scholar
Oerddwr, high above the Aberglaslyn pass in Snowdonia, at the home of his cousin, the poet, William Francis

('Wil Oerddwr', 1879-1966). The post of Professor of Welsh at Aberystwyth had been vacant since the untimely death of Edward Anwyl in 1914, and when steps were taken to fill the chair after the war a vociferous campaign was mounted opposing the appointment of Parry-Williams on account of

The entry in the Bangor (Caernarfonshire) parish register recording her christening under 6 January 1728/9, describes her as daughter of Bulkeley

apparently a member of the ancient family of Plas Llanedy, situated at the north end of the parish of Llanedy, Carmarthenshire. Intended for the Anglican ministry, he was converted under the preaching of Stephen

, Denbighshire (see the article Kenrick), and was the mother of Timothy Kenrick of Exeter. According to Thomas Rees, Phillips was taught by Samuel Jones of Brynllywarch, but his name does not appear in Walter Wilson's list (copy in N.L.W. Add. MS. 373) of Jones's pupils; it is however certain that he was taught by Stephen
Hughes

She was the author of twenty-five hymns which were discovered by Richard Griffith (Carneddog) among the manuscripts of Robert Isaac Jones (Alltud Eifion). Carneddog copied the hymns and they were published for the first time in Cymru (O.M.E.), 1906. A note on the manuscripts, in the hand of Alltud Eifion, stated that she was the mother of Dr. Thomas

At the time of his death Sir Ray Powell was the oldest Welsh Labour MP and firmly identified as belonging to 'Old Labour' - a member of the old school in the age of 'New Labour'.
