(1875 - 1947), Baptist minister
and Music Club of the town for many years, and during World War II he was Chairman of Undeb Cymru Fydd in the area. He owned a wide-ranging and valuable library, and was an authority on first editions. On 12 September 1905, in Tabernacl, Maesteg, he married Jane, the daughter of David and Elizabeth (née Jenkins)

Born 3 December 1871 at Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, son of Evan and

Watkins. One of ten children, he was educated at the local elementary school, and for five terms at the High School, Oswestry, under Owen Owen. He then returned home to assist his father, but in 1896 was appointed first Clerk of the Central Welsh board. In 1904 he was appointed chief clerk to the Education Department of the

afterwards a weigher in the iron-works at Blaina, but returned (c. 1860) to Blaenavon to keep the 'Three Cranes' inn - his wife,

(Lewis), had died 1859 at Blaina - they had two daughters. He died 31 January 1889. A zealous eisteddfodic competitor, he was a founder-member of ' Cymreigyddion y Fenni ' (for which see under Carnhuanawc and under Bevan, Thomas, 1802 - 1882); he won many prizes and medals
