Born 27 September 1853 at Penrhyndeudraeth, son of
Gwilym
Prysor, a cultured poet and writer. The family moved to Dolwyddelan where he and his brothers, the Rev. G. Parry Hughes (Calvinistic Methodist) of Morfa Nefyn and the Rev. Rowland Hughes of Cardiff, were brought up. After leaving elementary school he worked for a time in the Blaenau Ffestiniog quarries, after which he went to Llanrwst

Son of Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd of Rhydderch Park, in the parish of Lanbadarn Odyn, a wealthy landowner who held office under the Crown in 1387. According to Dwnn, i, 28, the mother of ' Ieuan ap Rhydderch ab Ieuan Llwyd y prydydd ' was Annes, daughter of

of Castell Hywel, Llywelyn ap Dafydd ab Einion of Llanllawddog, and his family, Siôn ap Dafydd of Llys Newydd, and John Lewys and his father of Prysaddfed in Anglesey. He composed religious and love poetry, and also one poem of controversy, or ymryson, addressed to Bedo Brwynllys; Ieuan was himself a keen Yorkist, and he accused Bedo of being hypocritical in this matter. to his chief patron, Ifor ap Llywelyn, Bassaleg, Monmouth. Although we are accustomed to calling it in Welsh 'Maesaleg' there are definite proofs that the name was 'Bassalec' or 'Basselec' in the 12th century (see the 'Book of Llandaff') and earlier the lineage of Ifor is given in Peniarth MS 133 (R., i, 833) (180), 'tredegyr ymassalec' (Tredegar in
IOLO GOCH

But a poem in the form of a dialogue between his body and his soul maps out a bardic circuit to the south-west of the country naming a number of patrons there, including the abbots of Whitland and Strata Florida and Rhydderch ab Ieuan Llwyd. and Llywelyn Goch Amheurig Hen, upon both of whom he wrote elegies. He also carried on a poetic controversy with Gruffydd Gryg. His awdlau were written in the manner of the 'Gogynfeirdd,' and even his cywyddau bear many traces of antiquity both in respect of vocabulary and syntax. Like Dafydd ap
