(c. 1716 - 1770), Methodist cleric
Woodstock chapel (near Ambleston) in 1755 and Capel Newydd (near Boncath) in 1763. He was a persuasive evangelist. Rhys
Thomas
of Carmarthen published one of his sermons in 1762 under the title Llais y Durtur, etc., and another in 1768 under the title Llais y Priodfab, etc. Among the Methodists he was called, not without reason, the 'Apostle of Pembrokeshire.'

His father was Rees Davies (1804 - 1891), a minister, who was born at Ysgubor Fawr, Myddfai, Carmarthenshire, while Jeffery Davies of Llangammarch was his uncle. John Davies was educated at the school kept by Morgan Jones at Myddfai and at the British school, Cefnarthen. He had a year's schooling at Brecon and then went to Merthyr Tydfil grammar school, where he came under the influence of
