WILLIAMS, DAVID MATTHEW (Ieuan Griffiths; 1900 - 1970), scientist, dramatist and inspector of schools Born 3 May 1900 in Cellan, Cardiganshire, son of John Williams and Ann (née Griffiths), and younger brother of Griffith John Williams. He left Cellan elementary school for Tregaron County School in 1911. In the Higher Certificate examination in 1918 he obtained the highest marks of all candidates in Wales in chemistry, for which his school was awarded special recognition. From Tregaron he
WILLIAMS, GRIFFITH JOHN (1892 - 1963), University professor and Welsh scholar Born at Cellan Court (the Post Office), Cellan, Cardiganshire, 19 July 1892, the eldest son of John and Anne (née Griffiths) Williams. His younger brother was Dr David Matthew Williams. His father was a blacksmith by trade and since there were five acres of land attached to the house, he kept a couple of cows and a pig as well as being the local postman. WILLIAMS, MOSES (1685 - 1742), cleric and scholar Son of Samuel Williams of Llandyfrïog. Born 2 March 1685 at Glaslwyn, Cellan, Cardiganshire. He was educated at Carmarthen grammar school and University College, Oxford (B.A. 1708). He became M.A. (Cantab.) ten years later.
