EVANS, IOAN LYONEL (1927 - 1984), Labour politician Ioan Evans was born at Llanelli in July 1927, the son of Evan Evans, a builder and clerk of works, and his wife. He was educated at Llanelli Grammar School and the University College of Wales, Swansea. He earned his living as a clerk for the Midland Bank, 1943-45, served in the army, 1945-48, and was a lecturer under the auspices of the WEA and the National Central Labour College from 1948-50

EVANS, WILLIAM HUGH (Gwyllt y Mynydd; 1831 - 1909), Wesleyan minister and man of letters son of Ioan Tachwedd (John Evans, 1790 - 1856) and brother of Cynfaen (John Hugh Evans). Born at Maenllwyd Mawr, Ysgeifiog, Flintshire, 13 January 1831, he left school early because his father would not permit him to learn the catechism of the Established Church. GLYNNE, MARY DILYS (1895 - 1991), plant pathologist sculptor and musician William Davies (Mynorydd) and sister to the singer Mary Davies. Mary attended Bangor County School for Girls, which her mother had played a prominent role in establishing in 1897 and served for a long period as one of its governors.
