JONES, OWEN THOMAS
(1878 - 1967), Woodwardian Professor of Geology in the University of Cambridge
the Geological Society in 1945, while the University of Wales awarded him the honorary degree of LL.D. in 1958. In 1910 he married Ethel May, daughter of William Henry Reynolds of Haverfordwest, and they had two sons and a daughter. One son died in an aircraft accident in 1945. O.T. Jones died

(1618 - 1674), colonel in the Parliamentary army and member of Cromwell's Second (or 'Other') House
generosity he had shown to some of them when he was in the ascendant (of this there is a good example in his decision of 1656 in favour of Ann, daughter to one of the Carmarthenshire Mansells and niece to the dispossessed Francis Mansell, principal of Jesus College, Oxford). Born 6 January 1810, eldest son of Robert Jones of Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire. He was educated at Oswestry Grammar School, matriculated from Jesus College, Oxford, 12 December 1834, and took his B.A. in 1837. He was ordained deacon by bishop Carey of S. Asaph, 1 July 1837, and licensed to the curacy of Northop, Flintshire. He received priest's orders on

He was sent to Chester to receive music lessons from John Owen (Owain Alaw), and stayed there until his teacher died in 1883. After a course of lessons given him by J. H. 1792, Jones was a Fellow of his college until 1806, when he became rector of Souldern, Oxfordshire. Wordsworth visited him at Souldern in 1820, and again in 1824 at the parsonage, Llanfihangel-glyn-myfyr, near Corwen. Jones remained rector of Souldern for the rest of his life, but spent various periods in North Wales. He died, unmarried, at Plas-yn-llan on

Tudur Jones, the son of Thomas Jones, a railway worker, and Elizabeth Jane (neé Williams), a nurse, was born in Tyddyn Gwyn, Llanystumdwy, Eifionydd, Caernarfonshire on June 28 1921. Jones. He retired from the BBC on 30 November, 1963. On 11 July 1963, the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature [D.Litt] was bestowed on him by the University of Wales at a ceremony in the Kings Hall, Aberystwyth. He was also honoured by the National Eisteddfod of Wales as Day President at Ebbw Vale in 1958. Sam Jones died on

September 1974. The funeral was at Bangor Crematorium on 9 September. A

He played for Wales against England, France, Ireland and Scotland (1924-25); he was captain on one occasion. He was a prominent active member of Welsh societies in London.
