JONES, OWEN THOMAS (1878 - 1967), Woodwardian Professor of Geology in the University of Cambridge the Geological Society in 1945, while the University of Wales awarded him the honorary degree of LL.D. in 1958. In 1910 he married Ethel May, daughter of William Henry Reynolds of Haverfordwest, and they had two sons and a daughter. One son died in an aircraft accident in 1945. O.T. Jones died 5 May 1967.
JONES, PHILIP (1618 - 1674), colonel in the Parliamentary army and member of Cromwell's Second (or 'Other') House generosity he had shown to some of them when he was in the ascendant (of this there is a good example in his decision of 1656 in favour of Ann, daughter to one of the Carmarthenshire Mansells and niece to the dispossessed Francis Mansell, principal of Jesus College, Oxford). He retired to the lands he had bought at Fonmon in the Vale of Glamorgan, became high sheriff in 1671, and died on 5 September 1674
JONES, RHYS GWESYN (1826 - 1901), Congregational minister in Wales and the U.S.A., and author , Marrying, and Living, of which several editions appeared, Yr Eglwys Bur (1860), Y Teulu Dedwydd (Merthyr Tydfil, 1867, etc.), Llithiau ar Epistol Iago (Utica, 1874); he also edited Ellis Wynne's Gweledigaethau y Bardd Cwsc in 1867. He was one of the founders of ' Sefydliad Cymreig y Bala' in Powys Riley County, Kansas. He died 5 September 1901.
JONES, ROBERT (1810 - 1879), cleric and author Born 6 January 1810, eldest son of Robert Jones of Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire. He was educated at Oswestry Grammar School, matriculated from Jesus College, Oxford, 12 December 1834, and took his B.A. in 1837. He was ordained deacon by bishop Carey of S. JONES, ROBERT (WILFRID) (1862 - 1929), musician Born 5 July 1862 at Tyddyn-bach, Arthog, Meironnydd, the son of Meredith and Jane Jones. He joined a band when he was quite young and became a competent player of the cornet. He was sent to Chester to receive music lessons from John Owen (Owain Alaw), and stayed there until his teacher died in 1883. After a course of lessons given him by J. H. JONES, ROBERT (1769 - 1835), cleric 1792, Jones was a Fellow of his college until 1806, when he became rector of Souldern, Oxfordshire. Wordsworth visited him at Souldern in 1820, and again in 1824 at the parsonage, Llanfihangel-glyn-myfyr, near Corwen. JONES, ROBERT TUDUR (1921 - 1998), theologian, church historian and public figure Tudur Jones, the son of Thomas Jones, a railway worker, and Elizabeth Jane (neé Williams), a nurse, was born in Tyddyn Gwyn, Llanystumdwy, Eifionydd, Caernarfonshire on June 28 1921. JONES, Sir ROBERT (1857 - 1933), orthopaedic surgeon Born at Rhyl, 28 June 1857, son of Robert Jones, journalist, and Mary Hughes, Rhuddlan. When the boy was 5 years old his father moved to London. Educated at Sydenham College, he afterwards studied medicine at Liverpool, living and serving an apprenticeship with his uncle Dr. H. O. JONES, SAMUEL (1898 - 1974), journalist, broadcaster and Head of the BBC in Bangor Jones. He retired from the BBC on 30 November, 1963. On 11 July 1963, the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature [D.Litt] was bestowed on him by the University of Wales at a ceremony in the Kings Hall, Aberystwyth. He was also honoured by the National Eisteddfod of Wales as Day President at Ebbw Vale in 1958. Sam Jones died on 5 September 1974. The funeral was at Bangor Crematorium on 9 September. A

JONES, WALTER IDRIS (1900 - 1971), Director General of Research Development for the National Coal Board (NCB) ). He played flanker for London-Welsh and Llanelli rugby clubs, and also for the Barbarians. He played for Wales against England, France, Ireland and Scotland (1924-25); he was captain on one occasion. He was a prominent active member of Welsh societies in London. Lord Elwyn-Jones was his brother. Idris Jones was unmarried and died 5 July 1971 at 9b The Cathedral Green, Llandaff, Cardiff.
