LEWIS, DAVID JOHN (Lewis Tymbl; 1879 - 1947), Congl. minister, popular preacher and lecturer than his day school. When he was 14 he was apprenticed as a tailor to Dafydd Jones, Brynawel, Hermon. He was one of nine apprentices noted for their talent. The discipline of this craft was to be reflected in the smart appearance of the preacher for the rest of his life. LEWIS, RICHARD (Dic Penderyn; 1807/8 - 1831), miner and revolutionary martyr 1827, the Rev. Morgan Howells. There is no certain evidence of Dic Penderyn's movements until the outbreak of the Merthyr Tydfil riots of 1831. He was then a married man living at Merthyr, and was a miner by occupation. LEWIS, THOMAS (fl. 18th century), hymn-writer who lived at Ynys-wen in the parish of Llanegwad, Carmarthenshire, and, at another period, at Castellhywel, Cardiganshire. A volume of long hymns composed by him and entitled Caniadau Duwiol was published in 1795. This also contains a poem of praise to the author by David Richards (Dafydd Ionawr).

LEWYS, DAFYDD (bu farw 1727), cleric
LLAWDDEN (fl. 1450), cywyddwr His cywydd to Ieuan Gwyn ap Gwilym Fwyaf shows that he was a native of Loughor, but he was known as ' Llawdden of Machynlleth.' Most of his poems were written to the families of Thomas ap Rosier of Hergest, and Phylip ap Rhys and Maredudd Fychan of Maelienydd. In the Carmarthen Eisteddfod of 1451 he is known to have accused Gruffudd ap Nicolas of being bribed to give the chair to Dafydd ab Edmwnd
LLEWELYN, MARY PENDRILL (1811 - 1874), translator and writer Williams (Pantycelyn). It is said that she also translated a number of the ballads of Dafydd Nicolas. She died 19 November 1874.
LLEWELYN, SION (1690 - 1776), poet at Cefn, nearer to the home of Siôn, in 1747, with Siôn as one of the prominent promoters, and first deacon. The poet, a blacksmith by trade (although one manuscript calls him a weaver), died 1 January 1776, and was buried in the grounds of Hen Dŷ Cwrdd, Cefn. A marble memorial tablet was unveiled at the old chapel by his descendants on 17 August 1947. His grandson was William Harri, of Garw Dyle
