LEACH, ARTHUR LEONARD
(1869 - 1957), historian, geologist and archaeologist
stimulated by his association with
Edward
Laws. Arthur Leach's formal education was confined to the local National School and Trinity College, Carmarthen, where he qualified as a teacher in 1890, but in those academic subjects to which he contributed significantly he was of necessity largely self-taught. His teaching career (which he readily admitted he disliked) was entirely spent in south-east London

Of Llwynderw, Carmarthenshire, born 1652, the younger son of the Rev. John Lewes of Llysnewydd. He married (1), Cecil Lloyd of Vairdre, Cardiganshire, (2), Eleanor Pryce of Rhyd-y-benne. He was an outstanding genealogist, and acquired manuscripts from Henllys, Penybenglog, Vairdre, and Rhyd-y-gors. He wrote some 25 pedigree volumes, mainly based on the works of David Edwardes, and assisted

and Roger, sons of Humphrey Kynaston. He also composed a cywydd and an awdl to Lewis Gwynn, the constable of Bishop's Castle (died 1552), a distinguished patron of the bards.
