(1751 - 1798), naval surgeon and poet
to reveal a headstrong and intolerant nature. He assisted in the task of collecting for publication the poems of
Dafydd
ap Gwilym and of Huw Morys. A portrait of Samwell is reproduced in the first article noted below.
SAUNDERS, DAVID
(Dafydd Glan Teifi; 1769 - 1840), Baptist minister, poet, and writer
Born January 1769, at Undergrove, Lampeter, son of Thomas and Elinor Saunders, grandson of Evan Saunders, and nephew of David Saunders 'I', both preachers at Aberduar, Carmarthenshire. He was educated at local schools, including that of
Dafydd
Jones, Dol-wlff, Llanwenog, and was baptised by Timothy Thomas, Aberduar, in July 1784. His family were well-to-do, and he is named among the first

(1864 - 1939), evangelist and author
Liverpool and her childhood in Daniel Rowland's village, in the sound of villagers' recollections of the Revival led by

Morgan Ysbyty Ystwyth (1859), Sara experienced a Christian religious conversion as a young girl. Following her marriage in 1887 to John Maurice Saunders (1863-1919), a member of another well-known Methodist family who lived in Liverpool (son of Dr D. D. Saunders), Sara dedicated
SIANCYN FYNGLWYD
(fl. c. 1470), poet
A native, presumably, of South Wales. Nothing is known of his life, but a few of his poems remain in manuscript. These include two cywyddau to Sir Rhys ap Thomas of Dynevor when he was a young man (Peniarth MS 83 (70), Llanstephan MS 30 (435)). His son,
Dafydd
Fynglwyd, was also a poet.
SIMON, BEN
(c. 1703 - 1793), dissenter and copyist
the group of copyists greatly influenced by Iaco ab Dewi. His most celebrated manuscript, 'Tlysau'r Beirdd' (NLW MS 5474A) was written between 1747 and 1751, and his well-known collection of
Dafydd
ap Gwilym's works (NLW MS 5475A) in 1754. Some of his other manuscripts are in the Cardiff City Library and at Oxford. His books and manuscripts were bought by Thomas Evans (Tomos Glyn Cothi) in 1790, and

(c. 1530 - 1606), poet
containing his genealogical collections is in the Cardiff Public Library, and there are several other manuscripts containing his work in the various libraries. Some of his cywyddau have been published, his 'pattern' awdl to Piers Mostyn, which he showed at the Caerwys eisteddfod of 1568, is printed in the grammar, (1592), of Siôn

Rhys. In 1571 was printed a page showing an epigram by the Latin poet
