  • ROBERTS, ROBERT (1774 - 1849), Calvinistic Methodist minister, and hymnist Methodists c. 1828-41; nor did his own sharp tongue lessen this disfavour. He narrowly escaped excommunication - even so, his ordination was deferred till 1832, when he was 58 and had been a preacher for more than twenty-five years. He wrote many hymns; these, with some other verse of his, were printed in Y Traethodydd, and some of them will be found in Emynau y Cysegr. He died suddenly, 14 August 1849

  • ROBERTS, THOMAS (bu farw c. 1775), first Baptist convert in Anglesey baptized and joined the Wrexham Baptist church, though he continued to reside in Anglesey. He died c. 1775, without seeing the addition of a single convert to the Baptist cause in the island, and was buried at Rhos-y-meirch. A treatise entitled Traethawd am Enaid ac Yspryd yn ôl yr Ysgrythyr, published in 1785, is ascribed to him.
  • ROBERTS, THOMAS FRANCIS (1860 - 1919), principal, University College, Aberystwyth year was appointed the first professor of Greek at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire, Cardiff. He took his M.A. in 1886, and in 1891 returned to Aberystwyth as principal, succeeding T. C. Edwards. He held this post till his death at Westcliff-on-Sea, on 4 August 1919.
