ROBERTS, LEWIS JONES (1866 - 1931), inspector of schools, and musician Born 29 May 1866 at Aberaeron, Cardiganshire, the son of Lewis Roberts and his wife, Margaret (Jones). He was educated at S. David's College, Lampeter (B.A.), and Exeter College, Oxford (M.A.); whilst he was at Oxford he was a member of ' Cymdeithas Dafydd ap Gwilym.' He married, 1888, Mary Noel Griffiths, daughter of capt. Griffiths, Old Bank, Aberaeron; there were six sons and three daughters

ROBERTS, PETER (fl. 1578-1646), attorney and chronicler Born 2 February 1577/1578, son of Robert ap Hywel ap Rhys, of Bron-yr-wylfa, near S. Asaph, and his wife Agnes - a Griffith of Gwern-eigron; he probably went to S. Asaph cathedral school. By 1599 he was notary public at S. Asaph, and in 1624 (30 June) he was appointed proctor in the bishop's court. In 1606 he married Jane, one of the daughters of David ap Lewis ap Gronw, of Meiriadog; and he
ROBERTS, THOMAS (1884 - 1960), educationalist and scholar Llywelyn Goch - and for the texts of their poems. In the second edition, which appeared in 1935, Thomas Roberts added some poems and revised the introductions. In 1925 he took part in another joint effort, this time with Henry Lewis and Ifor Williams, to produce Cywyddau Iolo Goch ac eraill, in which Thomas Roberts dealt with Gruffudd Llwyd and Ieuan ap Rhydderch. ROBERTS, THOMAS (1765-6 - 1841) Llwyn'rhudol, pamphleteer known that his wife's name was Mary, and that she was a native of Warwickshire and was a member of the Society of Friends. It is not certain whether Thomas Roberts became a Quaker. A daughter was born in October 1791. The eldest son, MAURICE ROBERTS, who had translated Dafydd Benfras's awdl to Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, died at the age of 20 in December 1812. In all, four children died before their
ROBIN DDU (fl. c. 1450), poet About ninety of his compositions are preserved in manuscript, many of them being vaticinatory. In one of these he converses with his book of prophecies, a type of vaticination also attributed to Meredudd ap Rhys and Llywelyn ap Cynfrig Ddu. teulu ROBINSON Conway, Monachdy, Gwersyllt, John Wynn's father he translated into Latin the Welsh life of Gruffudd ap Cynan (printed Archæologia Cambrensis, III, xii, 30, 112), and wrote an unpublished treatise on Welsh church history. He died 13 February 1585, and was buried in his cathedral; the memorial brass, plundered in the Civil War, was replaced by another in 1843. RODERICK, JOHN (1673 - 1735), grammarian, printer and publisher of almanacks and books, poet, and eisteddfodwr . 14874 (which he had owned) is written ' Llyfr Cywyddau Siôn Rhydderch, 1709; b. April 11, 1675 '. He printed and published in Shrewsbury his Grammadeg Cymraeg, 1728; a second edition was published at Carmarthen in 1824.
