Born 29 May 1866 at Aberaeron, Cardiganshire, the son of Lewis Roberts and his wife, Margaret (Jones). He was educated at S. David's College, Lampeter (B.A.), and Exeter College, Oxford (M.A.); whilst he was at Oxford he was a member of ' Cymdeithas Dafydd

Gwilym.' He married, 1888, Mary Noel Griffiths, daughter of capt. Griffiths, Old Bank, Aberaeron; there were six sons and three daughters

Llywelyn Goch - and for the texts of their poems. In the second edition, which appeared in 1935, Thomas Roberts added some poems and revised the introductions. In 1925 he took part in another joint effort, this time with Henry Lewis and Ifor Williams, to produce Cywyddau Iolo Goch ac eraill, in which Thomas Roberts dealt with Gruffudd Llwyd and Ieuan

He died 13 February 1585, and was buried in his cathedral; the memorial brass, plundered in the Civil War, was replaced by another in 1843.
