and anthems in four-part harmony. One cannot consider church music in Wales without being reminded of the contribution which he and others like him have made. In this context he represents a generation of benefactors whose importance cannot be exaggerated. He married Irene Ackerman, 26 December 1929; died

March 1967 and was cremated in Morriston.

' (Cambro-Briton, ii, 369). Later on, Hearne confesses that things were not too good at the Ashmolean, excusing Parry because he was unpaid. A German visited the Ashmolean in 1710, but did not see Parry there - ' the custos, always in the tavern, was too busy guttling and guzzling ' (Mallet, Hist. of the University of Oxford, iii, 22). Parry died in December 1714 -

PARRY, DAVID
(1760 - 1821), Calvinistic Methodist minister
Born 13 February 1760 at Llwyndiriad, Caeo, Carmarthenshire, son of Dafydd Parry. As a young man, he joined the Methodists and began to preach in 1778, after which he was a student at lady Huntingdon's college at Trevecka for a short time. In 1784 he married Margaret Evans of Llofft-wen, Llanwrtyd, and c. 1797-

went to live at Cilfach, Llanwrtyd. He was one of the first batch of ministers
PARRY, DAVID
(Dewi Moelwyn; 1835 - 1870), Independent minister, and poet
was accepted as a student for the Independent ministry at Bala College in 1861 (Dysgedydd, 1861, 439), and was ordained pastor of Adulam chapel, Tredegar, Monmouth, on Christmas Day 1863. Resigning his pastorate in 1867 he emigrated to America, and accepted the pastorate of the Independent chapel at Providence, Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he ministered from September 1867 till his death on

PARRY, Sir DAVID HUGHES
(1893 - 1973), lawyer, jurist, university administrator
judgement. Yet he was also a loyal ally, and gave unsparingly of his time and energy to those individuals, organisations and causes that were dearest to him. He died at his home, Neuadd Wen, Llanuwchllyn on

January 1973, and was cremated at the Wrexham crematorium; his wife, Haf, had predeceased him in 1965. There were no children of the marriage.
PARRY, GRIFFITH
(1827 - 1901), Calvinistic Methodist minister, and author
, 1887-91. He was a remarkably polished preacher, a writer of distinction, and a voracious reader. He wrote much in the Traethodydd and the Y Drysorfa, and some of the most important articles in (both editions of) Y Gwyddoniadur were his work - he also published commentaries. He died 22 August 1901 at Carno. His second son, EDMUND WYNNE PARRY (1855 - 1897), was born at Caernarvon
