Born 17 January 1909 in Wrexham, Denbighshire, daughter of Dr.
David
Llewelyn Williams and Margaret Williams. The poet Alun Llywelyn-Williams was her brother. The family moved to Cardiff just before World War I, but she was brought up at Rhyl during the war. She was a pupil at the Welsh Girls' School, Ashford, from 1919 to 1926, and afterwards was trained as a nurse at Cardiff Royal Infirmary. On
