RENDEL, STUART (1st baron Rendel), (1834 - 1913), industrialist, Member of Parliament, and philanthropist Born at Plymouth, 2 July 1834, third son of James Meadows Rendel and Catherine his wife. Educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford, where he graduated in 1856, he was called to the Bar, and later interested himself in engineering and ultimately became London manager of the Armstrong gunnery company. RHYS ap MAREDUDD (bu farw 1292), lord of Dryslwyn in Ystrad Tywi Leader of a revolt in 1287-8 against Edward I, was the son of Maredudd, son of Rhys Gryg. In 1277 he had submitted to Edward, surrendering the castle of Dinefwr, but being allowed to retain Dryslwyn. RHYS ap THOMAS Sir (1449 - 1525), chief Welsh supporter of Henry VII , daughter of Henri ap Gwilym of Cwrt Henri, and (2) Janet, daughter of Thomas Mathew of Radyr, who was widow of Thomas Stradling of S. Donats. He died in 1525 and was buried in Greyfriars church, Carmarthen. His body was later removed to S. Peters church; the tomb there was restored in 1865. RHYS, HYWEL (1715? - 1799), poet and Catherine Morgan recorded in Vaynor parish register on 1 January 1741/2. Four poems - ' Cân y Daear Fochyn,' ' Can yn cynnwys achwyniad y bardd am gydmares,' ' Can yr Hwsmon,' ' Can a gyfansoddwyd yn amser yr hynod ormeswr Morgan Siencyn Dafydd,' are attributed to him.
