MARQUAND, HILARY ADAIR (1901 - 1972), economist and Labour politician member of the Assemblies of the Council of Europe and the WEU, 1957-59. He was also a member of the National Union of Teachers and of the National Union of Blastfurnacemen. Hilary Marquand married on 20 August 1929 Rachel Eluned Rees BA (born in 1903 or 1904), a schoolteacher and the daughter of David James Rees of Ystalyfera, well-known as the owner of Llais Llafur. MARSDEN, THOMAS (1802 - 1849), cleric and author Born in 1802 (or 1801), son of David Marsden, a lead-miner of the Lampeter neighbourhood. He was educated at S. David's College there, ordained in 1827, and licensed to Llan-y-crwys (1827-9), Tir-abad (1829-31), and again to Llan-y-crwys (1831-8). From 1838 till his resignation in 1840, he was vicar of Brymbo, and from 1843 till his death, rector of Llanfrothen. He died 24 October 1849, in his
