WILLIAMS, ROBERT
(1848 - 1918), architect, author and social reformer
Robert Williams was born on 27 January 1848 in Ystradowen, Glamorgan, the second son of Rees Williams, a carpenter, and his wife Mary (
née
Evans). Following his education at the Eagle Academy, Cowbridge, Robert worked for a local building contractor, before leaving Wales around 1873 to study architecture and building construction at the South Kensington School of Art, where he won several prizes
WILLIAMS, STEPHEN JOSEPH
(1896 - 1992), Welsh scholar
Stephen J. Williams was born in Blaen-y-gors, a small-holding between Ystradgylais and Creunant at the head of the Swansea valley, 11 February 1896, the eighth of the nine children of Rhys and Ann Williams (
née
Gibbs). The father came from a family of farmers in Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire, the mother from Alltwen, Swansea Valley. When he was a year old his family moved to Ystradgynlais where
WILLIAMS, THOMAS OSWALD
(ap Gwarnant; 1888 - 1965), Unitarian minister, author, poet and public figure
' and he succeeded in establishing ' Hafan Deg ' home for the elderly to serve Lampeter and district. His wife Daisy (
née
Thomas) died on 4 May 1965. They were the parents of two daughters. He died at Carmarthen hospital on 21 October 1965 aged 77 years and he was buried at Brondeifi graveyard, Lampeter.
WILLIAMS, TOM PUGH

Tom Pugh Williams was born in 1912 in Trawsfynydd where his parents Edward and Jane (

Jones) Williams farmed Dolwen. When the lake in Trawsfynydd was created, the farm disappeared under the water. David Wynne was born at Nantmoch Uchaf farm, Penderyn, Breconshire, on 2 June 1900, the son of Philip Thomas (born 1872) and his wife Elizabeth (

Thomas, born 1877). He was christened David William Thomas, and later adopted the name David Wynne for his musical career. In 1901 the family moved to Llanfabon, Glamorgan, where his father found work in the Albion colliery in Cilfynydd. David
