HUGHES, DAVID (1813 - 1872), Independent minister, and author Born 21 June 1813 at Cefnuchaf, Llanddeiniolen, Caernarfonshire, son of Hugh and Anne Hughes. He began preaching (in Bethel chapel) at 19, and went to Hackney Academy and thence to Glasgow - a B.A. of Glasgow (which at that time gave that degree) is attributed to him, but does not appear in the University's Roll of Graduates. Her paternal grandfather was Hugh Hughes (1778 - 1855), a famous preacher; on her mother's side her descent was partly Jewish.
